'Voluntary donors meet 35pc of total blood demand'

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan laid on Friday importance on improving standard of living of people.

The NBR chairman, also Senior Secretary of Internal Resources Division, was addressing a felicitation ceremony to honour lifetime voluntary blood donors of Quantum Foundation (QF) at Institution of Diploma Engineers of Bangladesh with chief coordinator Madam Nahar Al Bukhari in the chair.

He handed over ID cards, certificates and crests to around 200 voluntary blood donors for donating bloods for at least 10, 25 and 50 times.

Professor of Hematology Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr ABM Yunus said only by developing 200,000 regular voluntary blood donors can fulfil the demand of 600,000 unit bags of bloods in the country. He said at present 35 per cent of the total blood demand in the country are met from voluntary blood donors and patients' relatives.
