The High Court on Monday ordered the government to explain why the authorities concerned should not be asked to provide Tk 50 lakh each to families of three teenagers killed at Jashore Child Development Centre, reports UNB.
Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Mahmud Hassan Talukder's bench issued the rule after hearing a petition filed by Barrister Sanzid Siddique.
The bench also asked the government to explain why directives should not be given to take steps to remove irregularities and problems existing at the three child development centres in the country.
Secretaries to the Home Ministry and Social Welfare Ministry, Director General of the Department of the Social Services (DSS), deputy commissioner of Jashore, Jashore SP, and the authorities concerned of Jashore Child Development Centre have been made respondents to the rule which is returnable in four weeks.
On August 13, three juveniles were killed and at least 15 others were injured when juvenile prisoners were beaten at the centre.
Roka Mia, father of one of the victims, filed a murder case with Jashore Kotwali Police Station on August 14 accusing the centre's authorities.
