Woman dies in city after ‘racing’ bus hits her

A young woman was killed on the spot and her elder sister was critically injured after being hit by a bus while crossing the road in Badda area of the capital on Wednesday, a sub-inspector of the Badda police station confirmed.

The deceased Tasnim Jahan Irene (24) was hit by a bus of 'Akash Paribahan' at around 9:15 am when the two sisters were crossing Pragati Sarani road.

She was struck by a bus, which was racing another bus, according to Irene's colleague Omar Faruk Apurbo.

Tasnim Jahan's elder sister, Nusrat Jahan Jerrin, (28) is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital.

Both sisters worked at an IT firm named NEXT Ventures, located in North Badda. Tasnim was the executive officer at the firm.

Police seized the bus and arrested the driver of the vehicle.

The victim's body was sent to Dhaka Medical College for an autopsy following legal procedures.

Following the autopsy, her relatives took the body for burial in the afternoon.
