The Election Commission (EC) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections of 2025 has announced that it would show zero tolerance for cyber bullying and personal defamation, and strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in such activities.
The warning came through a press release, issued by the university's Public Relations Office on Thursday.
According to the statement, the DUCSU and hall elections are scheduled to be held on September 9. In the run-up to the polls, some candidates have reportedly been subjected to cyber bullying, including attempts to discredit them by highlighting past activities. Female candidates, in particular, have been targeted in various ways, which the administration noted as a clear violation of human rights.
The press release further said if allegations of cyber bullying or defamation are proven, the DUCSU Code of Conduct Taskforce and the Cyber Control Cell would take stern action. In addition, legal measures would be pursued against the offenders.
Election returning officers made it clear that no candidate or group would be allowed to engage in cyber bullying or smear campaigns during the DUCSU elections.
