COX'S BAZAR, Mar 29: Biometric registration of 1,093,436 Rohingya people were completed until Thursday evening at seven camps out of 12 in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas of the district.

According to official sources, the Passport and Immigration Department registered names of more than 1.093 million (10.93 lakh) Rohingya people so far. Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammad Abul Kalam confirmed it.

Registration of the Myanmar Rohingya people is going on in full swing in camps at Balukhali, Kutupalong-1, Kutupalong-2, Nayapara, Thainkhali-1, Thainkhali-2 and Shamlapur.

The registration work started on September 11 last year. During the registration process the Social Welfare Department detected 36,480 orphan children at 12 refugee camps. Their parents were killed in Rakhine state during the ethnic cleansing of Rohingyas by the Myanmar military junta.

On the other hand, the influx of the Rohingya people from Myanmar to Bangladesh still continued. According to border sources, about 50 to 100 new Rohingya people entered Bangladesh through Anjumanpara, Sabrang and Shahaporir Dip border points every day.

Newly-arrived Rohingya people and border sources said due to international pressure Myanmar army stopped persecution of Rohingyas last month. But army members and Buddhist terrorists started persecution again in Moungdaw, Bhucidong and Rachidong townships of Rakhine state in

recent days.

Army men and their associates were harvesting Rohingya's paddy and shutdown shops of rice and other foods in different areas. Army men created an artificial food crisis in most areas of Rakhine state.

On the other hand, Cox's Bazar district administration restricted transportation of Rohingyas by any Bangladeshi oarsman or broker from Myanmar to Bangladesh.

At present the Rohingya are crossing the Naf river with the help of jerrycan and bamboo-made rafts.

According to Ukhia and Teknaf police and BGB sources, at least 3,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh from Rakhine state in last one and a half months.

With this, the total number of new arrivals after August 25 last stands at about 700,000, said RRRC office sources in Cox's Bazar.
