120 BNP men secure anticipatory bail

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 120 BNP leaders and activists, including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, in 15 cases filed in connection with the incidents of torching nine buses in the capital on November 12.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the orders after hearing the petitions filed by the BNP leaders.
Advocate Nitay Roy Chowdhury, Barrister Shahjahan Omar, Advocate Salahuddin Dolon, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal and others appeared for the petitioners.
Later, Barrister Kazal said, "The High Court granted anticipatory bail to 120 BNP leaders and activists until January 5, 2021 after hearing 16 bail petitions. They will have to surrender to the metropolitan sessions judges' court within this period."
SM Jahangir Hossain, a BNP candidate in the by-election to the Dhaka-18 constituency, Ishraq Hossain, BNP's mayoral candidate in the last election to the Dhaka South City Corporation, Jubo Dal president Saiful Islam Nirob and secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Chhatra Dal president Fazlur Rahman Khokan and secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol, among others, appealed for bail.
A total of 16 cases have been filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching eleven buses in the city on November 12.
Around 500 leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate organisations and several unidentified people, have been made accused in the cases.
