Election Commissioner (EC) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah has said democracy in Bangladesh will be revived through the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, reports BSS.

He made the remarks while speaking at the inaugural session of a workshop at Lakeshore Heights in the capital's Gulshan on Saturday.

The workshop, titled 'Building Bridges: Regional Electoral Governance and Citizen Observation Exchange, was organised by the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL).

"The 13th parliamentary election will be a historic milestone, marking the reestablishment of democracy," he said.

Sanaullah expressed the hope that a record number of international observers will participate in the polls, noting that they wish to witness a historically significant electoral process.

He said the Election Commission is fully prepared to conduct the much-anticipated polls in a free, and transparent manner.

current Commission is prepared to ensure a fair, credible and impartial election, he added.

He also pointed out that combating misinformation on social media and addressing the misuse of artificial intelligence will be key challenges in the upcoming election. The Commission, he said, is taking necessary steps to tackle these issues.

The commissioner thanked participants for joining and supporting what he described as a significant and noble initiative of the Election Commission.

According to EC officials, the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum may be announced around 60 days before polling day, which is expected to take place in the first half of February, ahead of Ramadan.

While the exact dates have not yet been finalised, the Commission has indicated that the election schedule could be announced any day in the first week of December.
