61 ‘pro-AL’ lawyers sent to jail in murder attempt case

A Dhaka court has sent to jail 61 pro-Awami League (AL) lawyers in a case lodged over assault and attempt to murder allegedly committed during July-August mass uprising, reports BSS.
The court also allowed bail to 19 others, including former president of Dhaka Bar Association Abu Sayeed Sagar, in the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Sunday as the accused surrendered before the court and pleaded for bail. The court allowed bail to 18 women accused, including Afroza Farhana Orange, Sahela Akter Shilpi, Salma Hai Tuni and Sharmin Sultana Likhon.
The 61 accused that were sent to jail include former president of Dhaka Bar Association Saidur Rahman Manik, Gazi Shah Alam, Anwar Hossain, Golam Kibria Sumon, Uzzal Miah, Nazrul Islam Shamim, and Mahfuzur Rahman Likhon, court custody (hajatkhana) in-charge sub-inspector Ripon Miah told the new agency.
