BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has pledged that if elected, he would take measures to eliminate terrorism, drugs and extortion from society, reports BSS.

"We must eliminate terrorism, drugs and extortion from the area," he said.

Mirza Abbas made the remarks while addressing a roadside rally in the capital's Shantibagh on Thursday as part of his election campaign for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the forthcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

He expressed optimism that the upcoming national parliamentary election would be held in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere with the participation of all political parties.

"Whenever we have participated in elections, they were held in peaceful environments. It was only under the Awami League's tenure that we were deprived of the opportunity to take part in elections," he said.

Earlier in the day, he formally inaugurated his election campaign by arranging a doa-mahfil at his residence.

The BNP leader said he would work to ensure a democratic political environment alongside social and economic development and enhanced security for the residents of his constituency.
