ACC files cases against ex-minister Bir Bahadur, ex-Gazipur mayor Jahangir

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former CHT Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing and his wife Mehla Prue for acquiring illegal wealth worth about Tk 115 million and making suspicious transaction of Tk 740 million, reports BSS.

ACC Director General (DG) Md Akhter Hossain disclosed the information to the media at a press briefing at the commission's headquarters in the capital on Sunday.

According to the case, the ACC during its investigation found that Bir Bahandur made suspicious transactions of about Tk 584.1 million through his 13 bank accounts while he was the minister for the CHT Affairs Ministry and Member of Parliament (MP) from Bandarban constituency.

Besides, the ACC during the investigation against his wife Mehla Prue found that she made suspicious transactions of Tk over 155.8 million through her six bank accounts. She deposited about Tk 93.1 million to those accounts and withdrew Tk over 62.8 million from there.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Advocate Jahangir Alam and the corporation's Chief Accounts Officer Golam Kibria for their alleged involvement in embezzling and laundering a staggering Tk 75. billion.

The DG said the accused were involved in large-scale corruption, manufacturing fake tender documents and bills using government development and revenue funds. These fraudulent activities allowed them to siphon off funds, which were reportedly funneled abroad.
