ACC files graft cases against Naryan Chandra Chanda, Akhteruzzaman Babu

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Land and Fisheries and Live Stock Minister Naryan Chandra Chanda and his wife, Usha Rani Chanda, on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth around Tk 24.2 million, reports BSS.
Assistant Director of Khulna ACC Rakibul Islam filed a case against Naryan Chandra Chanda as plaintiff in Khulna.
On the other hand, another Assistant Director of ACC Mahmudul Hasan Shuvra filed a case against Usha Rani Chanda as prime accused, and his husband Naryan Chandra Chanda.
According to the case statements, Naryan Chandra Chanda, also a former parliament member of Khulna-5 constituency (Dumuria-Fultala), allegedly misused his power and amassed Tk 18 million beyond his known sources of income.
Meanwhile, the ACC has filed a corruption case against former lawmaker from Khulna-6 constituency Md Akhteruzzaman Babu for his alleged involvement in acquiring wealth illegally.
ACC Director General-(Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain said on Monday the anti-graft body has filed the case against the former lawmaker for amassing about Tk 34 million beyond his known source of income.
The ACC during its investigation found he acquired and possessed wealth and cash amounting to about Tk 139 million, of which about Tk 104 million are legal.
That is why the ACC filed the case against him under section 27(1) of the Anti- Corruption Commission Act-2004.
Akhteruzzaman Babu was elected member of the parliament (MP) with an Awami League ticket from Paikgachha-Koira(Khulna-6) constituency in 2018.
