ACC files three cases against Nasrul Hamid, family members

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three cases against former state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid, his wife Seema Hamid and son Zareef Hamid on charge of abusing power and amassing wealth illegally, reports BSS.

"ACC found information of Nasrul's unusual and suspicious transactions involving 98 bank accounts, with a total deposit of Tk 31.81 billion and withdrawals amounting to Tk 31.8 billion," ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain told journalists at a press briefing in the capital on Thursday.

Akhter Hossain said, "A case has been filed against Nasrul Hamid under the relevant sections of the ACC Act, 2004 , the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 for transferring and converting money or property obtained through corruption and bribery to conceal its illegal source".

According to the case statement, Nasrul Hamid, also stands accused of using his position to amass assets worth Tk 363.7 million, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.

In the second case, Zarif Hamid, Nasrul Hamid's son, has been implicated along with his father in misusing power to illegally acquire assets worth Tk 208.8 million with suspicious transitions involving 20 bank accounts, with a total deposit of Tk 277.2 million and withdrawals amounting to Tk 174.1million.

They have been charged under the same legal provisions for financial misconduct and concealment of illicit assets.
