Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has been granted exemption from the murder case of Vargo Garment officer Sohan Shah during the July Uprising, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam issued the order on Tuesday, based on an interim report submitted by the investigating officer.
The Deputy Commissioner of the DMP Prosecution Division Mia Mohammad Ashish bin Hasan confirmed Bashir's exemption.
Typically, after investigation, the police submit a charge sheet or final report to the court. However, under Section 173(a) of the amended Criminal Procedure Code, enacted via ordinance on July 10, a suspect can be exempted based on an interim report during the investigation.
On November 24, SI Mostafizur Rahman of RAB-3 submitted an interim report to the court requesting Bashir's exemption, noting that the investigation found no connection between him and the incident.
Sohan Shah (30) was shot on July 19, 2024 in Rampura, outside a CNG refilling station, and died from his injuries on Aug 28 while undergoing treatment.
