AL-backed lawyer arrested over anti-state slogans

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka has ordered the arrest of Rofiqul Alam Chowdhury (61), an Awami League (AL)-backed lawyer, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act following allegations that he chanted anti-state slogans in the capital's Gulistan area.

Rofiqul Alam Chowdhury is identified as a member of the Dhaka branch of the Bangladesh Awami Lawyers Association.

Police on Friday produced Chowdhury before the court that sent him to jail.

Chowdhury was arrested by police on Thursday.
