Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain addressing a discussion on 'Human Rights and Democracy' organised by World Human Rights Organisation, Bangladesh at the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday.

FE REPORT

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain called upon on Saturday the interim government to announce election roadmap as early as possible after completing necessary reforms.

"The prime responsibility of the interim government is to give priority to holding national election as early as possible by completing reforms. They should declare election roadmap and move towards holding the national polls," he made the comments at a discussion organised by World Human Rights Organisation, Bangladesh at the National Press Club in the capital.

He said that the head of the ousted government of Sheikh Hasina sitting in India was constantly provoking his collaborators inside the country into creating unrest in Bangladesh.

He urged the countrymen to remain united and vigilant so that none could do harm to the country.

"It is natural that the ousted fascist and her collaborators will create unrest in the country by hatching different conspiracies aimed at their resurgence in the country's politics. But the people of the country will not allow it to happen. We must remain united as different conspiracies are underway to split ourselves," he warned.

He said that the interim government was the outcome of the July-August student-mass uprising (against Sheikh Hasina).

He said that BNP has been extending support to the present government and wishes their success.

BNP chairperson's adviser Amanullah Amannan and party's executive committee member Nazimuddin Alam were present, among others.

Meanwhile, in another programme BNP chairperson's adviser Zainul Abdin Farroque called upon on Saturday the interim government to announce national election roadmap immediately considering the demand made by the people of the country.

"It is ours and also people's demand that election roadmap be announced immediately. There is a need for an elected government to face the challenges made by the collaborators of the ousted fascist (Sheikh Hasina)," he said at a rally that demanded announcing election roadmap immediately, organised by Gonotantrik Party in front of the National Press Club.

He called upon the interim government to control Indian collaborators with an iron hand.

"Awami League has worked all time in favour of India. They (AL) couldn't ensure trial of Felani murder. They couldn't realise Bangladesh's rights to water share of common rivers with India. They tried to make Bangladesh a feudatory state of India. We are always ready to face them," he said.

Commenting that the collaborators of fascist Sheikh Hasina were still trying to destabilise the country and the government, he called upon all to resist them.

He demanded that the interim government ensure trial of those who were involved in bank looting and siphoned off money abroad during the last 15 years of the fascist regime.

Former whip of the opposition Mr Zainul Abdin Farroque called upon the interim government to work for the people , saying that the people of the country were with them.

President of Bangladesh Gonotantrik Party SM Sahadat Hossain presided over the event also attended by president of National Peoples Party Fariduzzaman Farhad and chairman of Labour Party Mostafizur Rahman Iran.

In another programme, BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Saturday that it would not take much time to complete the necessary reforms through national consensus before the national election.

"None should worry about reforms. We (BNP) will carry out reforms. We will implement our 31-point reform in Bangladesh. It will not take much time to complete necessary reforms including electoral one before election," he said while addressing as special guest an event marking the 7th National Conference of Gonoforum at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at Ramna in the capital.

He said that his party's 31-point reform has everything to realise the dream of future Bangladesh.

He said that the next government in the country, after a free and fair election, would be a national government and that government would implement the 31- point reform.

Mr Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury said that the collaborators of the fascist started hatching different conspiracies to destabilise the government and the country.

"We (student-people movement) have overthrown the autocratic ruler (Sheikh Hasina). We must be united," he continued.

Presided over by Dr Kamal Hossain, president of Gonoforum, the event was also attended by former president of Communist Party of Bangladesh Mujahidul Islam Selim and general secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Nazmul Haque Prodhan and Gonoforum leader Mostofa Mohsin Montu.
