Villagers in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj have allegedly beaten another man to death' following earlier killing of a suspect in eight cases and a union council member, reports bdnews24.com.
The man was lynched after being accused of taking part in a robbery attempt, police said.
According to Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of police, the incident occurred in Bishnandi union in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Nabi Hossain, was the son of Laikka Hossain from Uchitpura union. Police said there was no criminal record against him.
Citing local accounts, Mehedi said several men attempted to rob a house in the village, attacking and injuring at least four people inside.
The injured were identified as Kulsum Begum (40), her son Naeem Mia (18), and their relatives, Faruk Mia (45), and Abul Hossain (28). Kulsum was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment following the incident.
"Later, when an announcement was made on the loudspeaker of the local mosque that robbers had entered the village, the villagers chased the robbers and caught one of them," Mehedi said.
"He was beaten to death by the villagers."
Md Saifuddin, inspector (investigation) at Araihazar Police Station, said the robbery attempt began around 2:30 am, when Kulsum went outside to check on an earthen stove amid the heavy rain.
When she entered the kitchen, she saw three or four men in the kitchen area and began shouting, "Robbers, robbers!"
The intruders then attacked family members as they rushed to respond, he said.
