Anti-Discrimination Student Movement coordinator attacked

THAKURGAON, Feb 22 (UNB): A coordinator of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement was attacked and injured by unidentified assailants with sharp weapons in Thakurgaon.
The attack took place early Saturday near the bus stand area in Bhully under Sadar upazila.
The injured Kabirul Islam Joy, 29, is son of the late Matiur Rahman from Keshurbari village.
According to police and locals, Joy had returned to Thakurgaon after receiving eye treatment in Dhaka. As he was heading home in an autorickshaw from the bus terminal, unidentified assailants on two motorcycles attacked him. They indiscriminately attacked him with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.
Dr. Rakibul Islam Chayon, a medical officer at Thakurgaon 250-bed General Hospital, said, "Joy sustained multiple stab wounds on different parts of his body.
Due to severe injuries, several stitches were required, and he will remain under observation for 48 hours."
Victim Kabirul Islam Joy said, "At around 5:00 am, when I reached Bhully from Dhaka, the assailants attacked me. I could not recognize them. They intended to kill me. I demand justice for this attack." Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police said, "We are taking the matter seriously. The perpetrators will be brought to justice after a thorough investigation."
