Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday reiterated its demand to the interim government to arrest the former authoritarian Awami League regime's collaborators, who are still in their positions at different government organisations.
The party also asked the collaborators to resign without delay and leave their institutions to avoid public outrage.
Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, standing committee member of BNP and head of its relief and rehabilitation committee for flood-affected people, made the demands in a press briefing at the party's headquarters at Naya Paltan in the capital.
"Collaborators of the fascist Awami League government still remain at different government entities, including the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, the Anti-Corruption Commission etc. We call upon the interim government to arrest those collaborators. Otherwise they wouldn't escape public wrath."
He said the collaborators of the ousted Sheikh Hasina government are still hatching conspiracy to destabilise the country to take advantage.
Unrest in the country's ready-made garment (RMG) sector and in the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) are the part of the conspiracies being hatched by the collaborators.
Regarding the flash floods in Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari districts, Dr Zahid said BNP has constituted committees in those districts to stand beside the flood-affected people. The committees are set to start rescue and relief operations to the flood-affected people soon. BNP teams are also prepared to respond in the event of floods in Bogra and Sirajganj districts.
Zahid Hossain further said after rescue and relief operations, BNP teams have started working to rehabilitate the flood-affected people in Feni, Noakhali, Laximpur and Habiganj districts.
