CHITTAGONG: Organisations of indigenous people in Khagrachari hill district demanded Sunday immediate arrest of those who attacked the delegation of the International Commission on CHT Affairs in Rangamati Saturday.

They took out a procession, staged demonstration and held a rally demanding punishment to those who attacked the commission. Leaders of the organisations said that democratic rights of the indigenous people were being violated in the Chittagong Hill Tracts but the police and other law enforcing agencies went on harassing the ordinary people in the hill districts.

They said that the activists of Sama Odhikar Andolan led by one Nurjahan Begum, attacked the convoy carrying the CHT commission delegation led by the commission's co-chairman Sultana Kamal in Rangamati.

Pahari Chhatra Parishad, Hill Women's Federation and Ganotantrik Juba Forum jointly organised the programme at Swanirbhar in the hill town in the morning. Later they held a meeting at Chengi Square.

Pahari Chhatra Parishad Khagrachari district unit member secretary Ripon Chakma, organising secretary Ratan Chakma and central general secretary of Hill Women's Federation Himadri Chakma addressed the rally.
