BAGERHAT, Aug 8 (BSS): A all-party committee has demanded four Jatiya Sangsad (JS) seats in the coastal district.
A delegation of the committee met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Friday and submitted a memorandum to him, a press release said.
BNP central committee research secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim, executive
member former MP Mujibur Rahman, district BNP leader MA Salam, Rafiqul Islam Jaglu, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Yunus Ali were present, among others.
Earlier, thousands of people from all walks of life formed a human chain in
front of the National Press Club in Dhaka in the morning.
Bagerhat, a disaster-prone area, is blessed with mangrove forest Sundarbans.
Due to its unique nature the district needs more government attention and
financial support for its development.
The decision of the Election Commission to reduce the number ofJS seats in the district is not logical whereas UNESCO has
advised for more attention to the area.
The CEC assured them of reviewing the matter and take a final decision.
