Bail plea of ex-CEC Habibul Awal rejected

A Dhaka court has rejected a bail petition filed by former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in a case lodged over alleged manipulation of national elections, reports BSS.

Judge Nargis Islam of the Dhaka Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order on Wednesday after hearing the petition.

Detective Branch (DB) of police had arrested him on June 25 in the capital's Moghbazar area and produced him before the court. On June 26, the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mustafizur Rahman placed him on a three-day remand.
