Bangladesh earned independence not to surrender it to India: Rizvi

FE REPORT | December 12, 2024 00:00:00

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Wednesday that Bangladesh had earned its independence from Pindi (Rawalpindi, Pakistan) through sacrificing blood not to surrender it to Delhi (India).

"We (Bangladesh) achieved our independence at the cost of blood, are we going to sell this independence? We snatched away our independence from Pindi not to surrender it to Delhi," he said at a brief rally in front of the party central office at Nayapaltan in the capital before bringing out a long march towards Agartala, India protesting against attack on Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh and desecration of the national flag there (Agartala) by Hindu fundamentalists.

Three affiliated organisations of the BNP- Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal - organised the long march.

"India is giving support to blood-thirsty lady Firaun (Sheikh Hasina). The ruling dispensation of India is facing criticism from democratic world for this (supporting Sheikh Hasina) though they are a democratic country," he said.

"India doesn't want Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives to run by their respective countries' people's wishes. Why should they run as per India's wishes? The ruling class in New Delhi couldn't realise the courage and bravery of Bangladeshi people," he mentioned.

Leaders of Chhatra Dal, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal at the rally said that the attack on the Assistant High Commission premises was premeditated.

They said that entering the commission premises, taking down the national flag, setting it on fire, and vandalising property constitute a clear violation of the Vienna Convention.

After the rally, Chhatra Dal, Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal - brought out the long march at 9:00 am from the BNP's central office at Nayapaltan in the city.

A roadside meeting was held at Bhairab intersection in Kishoreganj, presided over by Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna.

Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Zilani attended it as the chief guest.

The long march concluded with a rally in Akhaura, where Juba Dal President Monayem Munna attended as the chief guest, while Swechchasebak Dal President SM Zilani presided over the event.

Earlier the three BNP-affiliated organisations organised a march towards the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on December 8, 2024 in protest against the same reasons.

The march on December 8 began at Nayapaltan and proceeded towards Rampura, was stopped by law enforcement agencies. Later, a delegation submitted a memorandum to the Indian High Commission.

A group of protesters from the Hindu Sangharsha Samity attacked the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala, Tripura on December 2, 2024.

They vandalised the flagpole, desecrated the national flag, and damaged property within the mission while protesting the arrest of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and demanding his immediate release.
