State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira on Friday said Bangladesh is a shining example of secularism, reports BSS.

"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established a non-communal Bangladesh by liberating the country through a long movement and struggle," she said while speaking as the chief guest at a programme.

Janmashtami Celebration Parishad organised the programme on the premises of JM Sen Hall in Chattogram marking the birthday of Lord Krishna, said a press release.

"Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to power and empowered women by creating a non-communal Bangladesh and established Bangladesh as a shining example of secularism," she added.

In the month of August in 1975, she said, the anti-independence activists killed Bangabandhu and his family members and turned non-communal Bangladesh into a communal country.

"After 75 and in 2001, BNP-Jamaat came to power and started a new practice of communalism through oppression and torture on the Hindu community in this country."

Indira also said, "Sri Krishna's ideology and philosophy was to remove injustice, oppression and violence from the society and build bonds of genuine love and harmony among people."
