A special court in Dhaka on Monday ordered the authorities concerned of the government to freeze movable and attach immovable properties owned by former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, his wife Irene Malbika Munshi and former Disaster Management Minister Md Enamur Rahman.
Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Md Jakir Hossain, passed the order after hearing two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court ordered to attach 92 decimals of land in Rangpur, a three-storey building at Uttara in the capital, and to freeze 11 bank accounts, shares of nine companies and two cars owned by Tipu Munshi.
It also ordered to attach a plot at Gulshan in Dhaka, and to freeze a bank account and shares of nine companies and savings certificates owned by Irene Malbika Munshi.
A total of seven bank accounts and shares of Enam Medical Hospital Limited, Enam Education and Industrial Village and Enam Cancer Hospital and two cars owned by Md Enamur Rahman have been frozen and attached by the court order.
The court also ordered to attach around 100 acres of land at Purbachal New Town Project allotted to Power Pac Holding Limited, an organisation owned by Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder.
According to the ACC petition, Rajuk allotted the land to Power Pac Holding Limited through a fraudulent auction process in order to establish a 100-142 storey building there. The land was given to the company at a price of Tk30 billion whereas its actual price is Tk50 billion.
The court also ordered to freeze five bank accounts of Talukder Md Jobaer, former director general of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), and his wife Fahmina Masud.
It also issued a travel ban on Major General (retd) Hamidul Haque, former director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), and his wife Nusrat Zahan Mukta in connection with corruption allegations brought against them.
In the petition, the ACC said Hamidul Haque and his wife amassed a huge amount of money through corruption and irregularities in their names and the names of their family members.
"ACC official came to know from credible sources that the couple was attempting to flee the country. If they flee, the inquiry into the allegations brought against them might be hampered. So, an order is needed to prevent them from doing so," said the petition.
On September 12 last year, the army sent Hamidul Haque into forced retirement.
