BCL holds flash procession in Ctg, five held

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 31: Police have arrested five Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists for bringing out a flash procession spanning up to ten minutes at GEC intersection in the port city of Chattogram.
The banned student organisation staged the programme between 6am and 6:20am on Thursday in the area under Khulshi police station, to mark its first public appearance since the ouster of the Awami League government on August 5 last year.
The arrestees were identified as Hasan Imam (30), Anisur Rahman (20), Mahidul Haque (35), Shahin Alam (26) and Md. Tarek (24).
The five were arrested from different places in the city on Thursday night. They were produced before a court on Friday afternoon and the court sent them to jail.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) of police Mofiz Uddin confirmed that the arrestees were sent to jail on Friday evening.
Local sources said leaders and activists of the banned BCL took out a flash procession at GEC point of the city on early Thursday (around 6 am), which lasted only 5 to 10 minutes.
On the same day at 10 am, a video footage of 1.27 minutes covering the procession was published on the official Facebook page of the BCL.
The footage showed 20 to 25 activists marching on one side of the CDA Avenue and chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the interim government.
Earlier, on November 17 last year, BCL leaders and activists suddenly brought out a procession at Probartok intersection of Chattogram. Police arrested two persons in connection with the incident.
