Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum (BJAF), a platform of the pro-BNP lawyers, on Monday demanded withdrawal of all cases filed against BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman.
They made the appeal in a press conference held at the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) building.
Senior Advocate Zainul Abedin, president of the BJAF, gave a written speech in the conference.
Barrister Kayser Kamal, secretary general of the BJAF, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, SCBA president and also advisor to the BNP chairperson, among others, were also present in the conference.
Tarique Rahman has been a continuous leader at the 17-year-long struggle for democracy of different political parties, people, and especially the students, according to the written speech by lawyer Zainul Abedin.
All the cases filed against Tarique Rahman are politically motivated and verdicts were given in some cases with the dictation of Sheikh Hasina, the chief of the authoritarian regime, he said.
"However, we have noticed that the authority has not taken any initiative to withdraw these politically motivated cases. We demand to withdraw these cases filed against Tarique Rahman without any delay."
