TANGAIL, April 18 (BSS): Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan has asserted that the BNP government started working for the welfare of the people immediately after assuming office.
He said in line with its election pledges, the distribution of farmer cards and family cards has already begun, and work on rural infrastructure development has also been initiated based on priority considerations.
He made the remarks while talking to journalists after inaugurating a newly constructed bridge over the Jhinai River in the Daponajor area under Basail upazila on Saturday.
The minister said the government began its journey with virtually no available resources. He noted that Dr. Yunus had helped move the situation from a negative position to at least a neutral footing, from which the present government commenced its work. He added that, despite limited funds in the state treasury, development activities are continuing to be implemented.
He further said under the able leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, development activities have already commenced across the country, including in Basail and Sakhipur upazilas. As part of these initiatives, the Daponajor Bridge has been inaugurated.
He also announced that the foundation stones of a road and a school in Sakhipur upazila would be laid later in the day. Last week, the foundation stone of another bridge connecting Singardak and Patharghata under Basail upazila was laid.
He expressed hope that a 'wave of development' would unfold in Basail and Sakhipur upazilas, as well as across the country, during the tenure of the present government, ensuring that the benefits of development reach all citizens.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mosammat Aklima Begum, LGED Executive Engineer of Tangail Mohammad Kamruzzaman, former Joint Secretary of District BNP Abul Kashem, Acting President of Basail Upazila BNP Mamun Al Jahangir, General Secretary Advocate Nur Nabi Abu Hayat Khan Nabu and Basail Municipality BNP President Aktaruzzaman Tuhin, were present at the meeting, among others.
