KUSHTIA, Sept 15 (BSS): Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif today said BNP was founded with an ulterior motive to plunder the country's assets contrary to the interests of the people.
"The frequent comments and thoughts of BNP leaders and workers manifest the very nature of the party which was established to indulge in looting of state assets and protect the defeated forces of 1971," he said while addressing a rally at Kumarkhali Bus Station here.
Speaking as the chief guest, Hanif said the mindset of BNP leaders simply goes against the country's development and changing the fortunes of its people.
"They (BNP leaders) are always prone to gain their personal interest as they did it in the past," he added.
The AL leader categorically said BNP would not be able to hide its wrongdoings resorting to the lame excuse of upholding democracy.
Ongoing trials of BNP leaders and workers, who were involved in wrongdoings, would continue and that is why many of them must face the music, Hanif said.
Ruling party lawmaker Selim Altaf George (Kushtia-4) and AKM Sarwar Jahan (Kushtia-1), among others, spoke at the rally.
Earlier, Hanif inaugurated the construction work of a Taka 89-crore Kumarkhali-Jaduboira linking Gorai Bridge.
