BNP leader stabbed to death in city

A BNP leader has been killed in a machete attack in Dhaka's Mohammadpur, according to police, reports bdnews24.com.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred in Taj Mahal Road around 11:30am on Monday.

The victim, identified by his first name as Mintu, 25, was the treasurer of the BNP's Ward-29 unit No. 3 wing.

Two others were injured in the attack.

After the attack, Mintu and his companions Tuhin Jamaddar, 30, and Zahirul Islam, 40, were initially taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. They were later transferred to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), where Mintu died around 5:30am on Tuesday, Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Hafizur Rahman said.

Following the incident on Monday, Tuhin's wife Tulu Akhter lodged a case initially under charges of "assault".
