Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has alleged that BNP is hatching a conspiracy over the quota reform movement in the wake of the party's failure to wage any anti-government agitation, reports BSS.
"BNP wants to create an issue capitalising on the quota reform movement," he told a press conference at the Setu Bhaban in the city.
Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will stick to her words on the announcement she made over the quota system.
He also urged the demonstrators of quota reform movement to stay calm for a few days.
He said there is no lack of sincerity on the part of the government over the quota system reforms but it cannot be solved in no time.
The road transport and bridges minister said a committee has been formed to review the quota system and the committee held its first meeting.
On the BNP's remarks to free BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail through movement, the AL general secretary said the BNP in the past resorted to sabotage, violent acts and killings in the name of movement.
The people of the country will never support BNP's violent acts, he added.
He said the BNP many times tried to wage movement to free Khaleda Zia but the people did not respond to their calls.
The AL general secretary said as the BNP has no public support to wage a movement now the party is out to capitalise on the quota reform movement.
