BNP proposes five names for new EC

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has proposed five names for consideration of the search committee in the formation of the new Election Commission (EC).

However, the names that the party recommended could not be ascertained immediately.

BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed and joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie handed over the list of the names to the search committee through the cabinet secretary on Wednesday, according to the party sources.

Meanwhile, the 12-party alliance has also submitted a list of five nominees.

President of Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party Sahadat Hossain Selim and chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Syed Ehsanul Huda submitted names of the five individuals chosen by their alliance to the cabinet secretary on the same day.

The political parties and professional bodies have been asked to submitted names for Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners until 5:00 pm of November 7, 2024. Individuals may also submit names of their choice.
