BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has reaffirmed that his party will stand beside the families of victims of enforced disappearances and killings during 17 years of fascist rule, report agencies
"Thousands of BNP leaders and activists became victims of enforced disappearance, murder and torture over the past 17 years under Sheikh Hasina's fascism. The sacrifices of their families are beyond description and unforgettable. If people elect BNP in the next election, we will remain beside those families," Anee said.
The BNP leader made the remarks while speaking at a representative conference of Chandraganj thana BNP in Lakshmipur on Friday.
The programme was presided over by Chandraganj Thana BNP convener Belal Hossen and moderated by member secretary Anwar Hossen Bacchu.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the July uprising, Anee said, "Our girls sacrificed their lives for the country during the uprising. Yet, collaborators of fascism are still hatching conspiracies against us. We must remain united against these conspirators."
He further said BNP sees the reflection of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman's dream in its acting chairman Tarique Rahman and remains committed to realising Ziaur Rahman's vision.
BNP vice chairman Advocate Ahmed Azom Khan attended the conference as the chief guest, while other central and local BNP leaders were also present.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Farroque has called upon Jamaat-e-Islami to apologise to the nation for its past mistakes and take part in the upcoming national election.
"I saw in a newspaper that they (Jamaat) said PR is not needed if people don't want it. May Almighty Allah guide them on this holy Jumma day. I urge them to gradually change their political strategy, apologise for any past mistakes, and join the election," he said.
Speaking at a discussion in the capital on Friday, the BNP leader also said Jamaat is making various demands to delay the election while at the same time preparing for the polls and seeking votes from the people by using religious sentiment.
