Khaleda release

BNP to hold rallies in all divisional cities

BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said on Saturday their party will hold rallies in all the divisional cities, including the capital, to drum up public support and press its Chairperson Khaleda Zia's release from jail, reports UNB.

"We're carrying out our movement in a peaceful and disciplined manner. We'll hold a rally on March 12 at Suhrawardy Udyan demanding our chairperson's release," he said.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader further said, "Not only that, we've a scheduled rally to be held in Khulna on March 10. We'll gradually hold rallies in the divisional cities and some districts."

Through the rallies, he said, they will also apprise people about the government's 'evil design' to hold another unilateral election keeping Khaleda in jail in a 'false and fabricated' case.

Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporter's Unity (DRU) demanding Khaleda's immediate release.

Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said they have already informed people about the 'injustice' done to Khaleda by the government through distributing leaflets. "We're reaching out to people with peaceful programmes to drum up public support."

About their party's plan for holding a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on March 12, he said they have taken it as a challenge to make the programme a success.

"We've come to know that the Prime Minister is going to address a rally of Awami League at Suhrawardy Udyan on March 7, and later Jatiya Party of HM Ershad will also arrange a similar programme at the same venue. So, the government must allow us to hold the rally there," the BNP leader said.

Mosharraf hoped that a huge number of people will join their rally spontaneously. "It'll be a much bigger one than the rally we held on November 12 last year with our chairperson Khaleda Zia's presence.

He said the government will not be able to hold the next polls keeping Khaleda out of the race as people will not accept such election.
