Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday the BNP leaders are trying to create a political issue over the treatment of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia, report agencies.
"Creating political issue is more important to them (BNP leaders) than Khaleda Zia's physical condition. After the Eid, BNP wants to capitalise the matter as an excuse to wage movement," he said.
The AL leader made the comments while exchanging Eid greetings with ministry officials and employees at his Secretariat office in the city.
Quader said according to jail code, BNP leaders cannot meet Khaleda Zia every day.
"You should remember that it is jail, it is not a residence. The BNP leaders cannot meet Khaleda Zia regularly. Family members can meet her. They went and they met her," he added.
About the treatment of Begum Khaleda Zia, the minister said CMH is a hospital with maximum facilities. "We do not know why she does not want to receive treatment from there," he added.
About overseas visits of BNP leaders, Quader said they don't have faith in people so they are visiting different countries.
The government has "every information" about them, he added.
Meanwhile, in Cumilla on Sunday Obaidul Quader said BNP has no headache about the treatment of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He said the party wants to make Khaleda's treatment an issue for waging a movement after Eid.
"BNP leaders are saying many things to make it (treatment) an issue for launching a movement after Eid," he said.
The AL leader made the comments while talking to reporters during a visit to Cumilla-Noakhali road at Paduar Bazar.
