BNP unveils 10-day programme to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day

It demands public holiday on Nov 7

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a10-day programme in observance of the National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7.

The party has arranged the programme aiming to focus on the importance and history of the day and disseminate knowledge about it among the country's younger generation.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a press briefing after a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies at the party's Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Thursday.

Mr Fakhrul said that they would extensively observe the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day' commemorating the 'civil-military uprising' on November 7, 1975.

He added that the party would observe the day this time extensively to highlight the day's significance and true history to the younger generation.

"7th November is an important day for the people of the country. The young generation was deprived (during the Awami League government) of knowing the real history of this day," he said.

He also said that as per the announced programme, a discussion meeting would be held on November 6, whose venue is yet to be decided.

He said that the party flags will be hoisted atop at all BNP offices including the central ones at 6:00 am on 7th November.

The BNP leaders and activists would visit the grave of the party founder and former President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to pay homage and offer fateha on the same day.

They would also place wreaths on the grave of the late president at 10:00 am on 7th November.

Besides, cultural programmes would be held at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital and in all divisional cities and district towns in the evening of the day.

Mr Fakhrul further said that BNP would also take out a colourful procession from in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office at 3:00 pm on November 8 (Friday).

He said that they chose to schedule the programme on a weekly holiday to avoid public inconvenience.

BSS adds: the BNP leaders also demanded the reinstatement of public holiday on November 7, declaring it as National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
