Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said his party wants good relationship with India.
"Minorities in India are being much persecuted, compared to the other countries (in South Asia). Despite that India gives us (Bangladesh) advice on the issue," he said at a press briefing at his Gulshan residence in the capital on Monday.
He alleged that fascist Awami League (AL) filed false cases against the opponents. "The character of AL is to annihilate its opponents. BNP wants to start a new trend of politics."
Mr Hafiz Uddin noted that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's name was intentionally implicated in the August 21 grenade attack case. But, the High Court has now given verdict independently in the case. Tarique Rahman will return to the country after withdrawal of cases against him.
About national election, he said BNP is waiting for the election and expects that it would be held next year.
Meanwhile, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has said the people of Bangladesh never accept fascism. Fascist Sheikh Hasina was driven away by the people. Tarique Rahman is now the future of the nation.
He said these at a sit-in programme, organised by Sushil Forum in front of the National Press Club in the capital on the day to protest against skyrocketing prices of essentials as well as deteriorating law and order situation.
"The law and order situation in the country has deteriorated, as the collaborators of the fascist AL regime are trying to destabilise the country in the name of different programmes. To check this, the law-enforcing agencies should act more actively," he maintained.
"A neighbouring country has given shelter to a person who killed democracy in Bangladesh. They (AL's collaborators) have started conspiracy to bring her back to politics. That country (India) doesn't like to accept Bangladesh's independence, sovereignty and democracy. It doesn't like other leaders and parties, except Sheikh Hasina and AL."
"I want to say it clearly to that country (India) that Bangalee people do not bow down their heads to others. Our nation is one of bravest nations in the world. If some quarters plan to realise something by putting pressure on us, they are wrong."
"More pinching with Bangladesh will create more enmity, which will not be good for both Bangladesh and India."
If the neighbouring country realises it rightly, problems with that country will be solved shortly, he added.
Meanwhile, in another programme, BNP Vice Chairman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon said, "India wants to see unrest in Bangladesh, because that country has lost a duck (Sheikh Hasina) that gave golden eggs." "AL leaders have said India will always remember them, considering what they have given to India. Hasina is now constantly hatching conspiracy against the country from India." "The followers of ISCKON killed a lawyer in Chattogram. If any Muslim kills any Hindu in India, there would be a sea of bloodshed," he added.
