Bogra court accepts charge sheet against nine militants

A court in Bogra accepted the charge sheet pressed against nine militants in a case filed for the gun attack on a Shia mosque in Bogra district in 2015 that killed its muezzin, report agencies.

Investigation officer of the case and officer-in-charge (investigation) of Shibganj thana Kamruzzaman Miah submitted the charge sheet to the court.

Judge Mohammad Qamruzzaman of the District Cognizance Court accepted the charge sheet on Sunday and set March 8 for the hearing on charge framing.

At least 13 trained members of banned militant outfit JMB and Islami Chhatra Shibir took part in the November 26 attack when the devotees were offering Maghrib prayers at Masjid-E-Al-Mostafa Shia mosque at Chakkanpur village in Shibganj upazila of the district.

Five of the accused are on the run. Of the four arrestees, key accused Yasin Ali gave confessional statement. Four other militants involved in the attack were killed in gunfights with the law enforcers during raids in June-July 2016.

Yasin Ali (40), Emdadul (28), Based (27), and Momin (25) are in jail, while Badal (26), Hamidul (22), Khademul (24), Ajad (24) and Biplob (32) are on the run.

Muezzin Moajjem Hossain (58) was killed and at least three others sustained bullet injuries in the attack.
