BOGURA, Dec 30 (BSS): A deep sense of grief has enveloped Bogura following the death of Khaleda Zia.
Since Tuesday morning, a large number of mourners have gathered at various locations of the district, particularly in the Bagbari areas of Gabtoli upazila, which were closely associated with the memory of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. A prayer mahfil was organised in Bagbari seeking eternal peace and divines forgiveness for the departed soul of the veteran leader.
As the daughter-in-law of Bogura, Khaleda Zia shared a deep domestic and emotional bond with the people of the district. Born on August 15, 1945 in Dinajpur, Khaleda Khanam Putul came to Bagbari village of Gabtoli in 1960 after marrying Ziaur Rahman, who was then a captain in the Pakistan Army. During the Liberation War and for many years afterward, she led a quiet life as a housewife, caring for her family and children.
Bogura District BNP President and former Municipal Mayor Rezaul Karim Badsha and Acting General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain expressed profound sorrow at her demise.
In an emotional statement, Rezaul Karim Badsha said, "National leader Khaleda Zia was not only our leader; she was like a mother to us. Her soul was deeply connected with the people of Bogura. With her passing, we truly feel orphaned. “
Her uncompromising role in the struggle to restore democracy will be written in golden letters in history."
