Protesters under the banner of 'Muktijuddho Mancha' on Monday demanded immediate resignation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) Vice Chancellor Prof Khandakar Nasiruddin over allegations of irregularities.
They issued the ultimatum from a human chain at the base of Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University (DU) campus.
Several hundred students and teachers of different institutions including DU took part at the human chain.
The protestors also demanded the withdrawal of suspension of the campus-based reporter Fatema Tuz Zinia, a second year student of the Law department at BSMRSTU.
She was suspended on September 10 for posting a status on her Facebook account, which the authorities claimed tarnished the university's image.
Muktijiddho Mancha activists urged VC Prof Khandakar Nasir Uddin to resign within next 24 hours otherwise they will move on to the Education Ministry with the same issue and will go on a tougher movement.
Muktijuddjo Mancha Convener Prof AKM Jamal Uddin said, "Recently, BSMRSTU VC has started acting in an autocratic manner. Despite that, the Education Ministry or the government didn't take any steps against him."
