Candidates giving false wealth info to face action: ACC chief

FE Report | November 28, 2018 00:00:00

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Tuesday said the commission will take action against the election candidates who will provide false information on their affidavits.

The national anti-graft authority will scrutinise the affidavits of aspirant election runners after they get published on Election Commission (EC) website ahead of the 11th parliamentary polls, he said.

The ACC chairman said these while addressing reporters on the premises of the commission headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha after coming out of his office.

He said the commission will cross check the affidavits with the wealth statements submitted to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) by the respective election candidates.

"Election candidates will need to enclose affidavits with nomination papers while submitting it to the EC; as far I know, these (affidavits) will get published on EC website as public document."

"If any candidate provides false information on affidavit, everyone including you and me will be able to see it, we will collect it from there (EC website)," Mr Mahmood added.

The commission will scrutinise the affidavits according to information collected from other government agencies, he said, adding, "If false information is found, ACC will send it to the EC to take legal action, we will also take action if possible."

The ACC boss said people expect that the public representatives will be honest and sincere as they want an end to corruption in society.
