RAJSHAHI, Feb 15 (BSS): Awami League presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Muhammad Nasim has said the next general elections will be a vote of protecting the spirit of the great Liberation War.

The AL presidium member also described as a dead issue the demand for holding the next national elections under a caretaker government.

The minister called upon the people for making Awami League victorious in the polls again for the sake of development in the country.

He was addressing a public meeting organised by Godagari Upazila Awami League on Godagari Mohila Degree College playground in the district on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest.

The meeting was organised as part of the party's preparation for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's scheduled visit to the district on February 22.

Chaired by Upazila Awami League President Badiuzzaman, the meeting was addressed, among others, by former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Omor Faruque Chowdhury, MP, Abdul Wadud Dara, MP, and Akhter Jahan, MP.

Muhammad Nasim said the development accomplished by Sheikh Hasina couldn't be avoided rather it has to be taken forward. He said, "We believe the general public will elect Awami League again to uphold the development trend."

He urged the party leaders and workers to work in unison to elect the party in the next general elections. Nasim said the next general elections will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as per the constitution.

He said the main theme of democracy is election which will be held in the county by this yearend. "We will accept the people's verdict in the election," he added.

Nasim said Khaleda Zia plundered orphans' money and she has been convicted by the trial court. So, none is responsible for her conviction.

He said the national election is a continuous process. "We will not tolerate if anyone tries to foil the election with an ulterior motive to hinder development process," he added.

The health minister said the leaders and workers of Awami League-led 14- party alliance will face election-foiling elements unitedly.

Terming the demand for caretaker government a dead issue, Nasim said the system will never come back. The election will be held as per the constitution, he added.
