Cops arrest ex-BCL leader over 'rape' of six in Shariatpur

Police have arrested an expelled leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Shariatpur on charges of raping six women, filming the incidents and circulating the videos on the social media, reports bdnews24.com.
Md Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhedarganj, said they arrested suspect Arif Hossain Howlader following a tip-off at Gosairhat upazila around 5:30pm on Tuesday.
Police will produce him before a court today (Wednesday), he said.
One of the six alleged victims, a housewife, filed a case against Arif on Novemver 11 alleging that he had first filmed her video with a hidden camera and raped her by threatening her to circulate that video.
The five other alleged victims are students. They alleged Arif had tricked them into love affair with the promise that he would marry them.
He later raped them, making the same threat - to circulate videos of their intimate moments on the social media.
Some of the videos were also uploaded on Facebook.
Shariatpur District BCL convenor Mohsin Madbor said they expelled Arif as general secretary of Narayanpur union parishad unit after the allegations of rape against him had surfaced.
"He doesn't belong to our organisation. We want his exemplary punishment," he added.
