Police have arrested nine suspects in connection with the 'abduction' of advocate Rathis Bhowmik, a witness in a war crime case, who went missing four days ago in Rangpur, reports bdnews24.com.

Inspector Babul Mian, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Kotwali thana, said the suspects were detained from different areas in the district on Monday.

However, the police are yet to name the detainees.

He is a witness in the war crime case started against Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam. The case is now with the Appellate Division after the tribunal sentenced Azharul to death.

Rathis is also a public prosecutor (PP) for the murders of Japanese national Kunio Hoshi and shrine caretaker Rahmat Ali.

Rathis left home with another man on a motorcycle around 6am on Friday but did not return home. His mobile is switched off, said his wife Dipa Bhowmik.

The young man, who was with Rathis, is unknown to Dipa.
