BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said people's mandate is required to execute the 'Second Republic,' reports BSS.
"To implement any idea of the newly-formed political party, it has to face the people. They have to come to power with the mandate of the people and it has to be passed in parliament. Only then it will be possible to realise their demands," he said.
He was talking to reporters after placing a wreath at the grave of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman along with members of the newly-elected committee of the Tax Lawyers Forum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday.
Ongoing crises will be aggravated if there is no democratic government, the senior BNP leader said, "The law and order situation of the country is getting worse. Until a democratic government is formed, the country will remain backward."
Urging the interim government to declare a roadmap for the elections soon, Amir Khasru said, "A kind of expectation has been created among the people of the country regarding the elections. Ongoing crises will be aggravated if the election process is delayed. If the government is sincere, it is possible to hold the national elections in June instead of next December."
BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, newly elected president of the forum Mahbubus Salekin and general secretary Abu Naser Mezbah, among others, were present on the occasion.
