Court freezes 57 A/Cs of ex-minister Nuruzzaman, wife

Ex-MP Momtaz, two others shown arrested in fresh cases

A Dhaka court has ordered to freeze 57 bank accounts of former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed and his wife Hosne Ara Begum and to attach their three plots over graft allegations, reports BSS.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Monday, following a petition of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Of the accounts, 32 were in the name of Nuruzzaman, while the rest 25 in Hosne Ara's name. On the other hand, of the three plots, one is located in Purbachal, and two are in Lalmanirhat.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court has showed three people, including former MP from Manikganj-2 constituency and singer Momtaz Begum, arrested in cases lodged over killings that took place during the July-August Mass Uprising.

The other two people who have been shown arrested are former home secretary Jahangir Alam and former superintendent of police Md Asaduzzaman.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed the orders on Monday, showing Momtaz arrested in the case lodged over the killing of Shaon Mufti with Kotwali Police Station. The court also showed Jahangir arrested in the Shamim murder case filed with the capital's Dhanmandi Police Station, while Asaduzzaman was shown arrested in Jatrabari's Mainuddin killing case.

The court later sent the three back to jail.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Momtaz Begum from the capital's Dhanmondi area on May 12. She was placed on a four-day remand the next day in a case lodged over the murder of one Md Sagor during the July-August Mass Uprising.
