FE REPORT

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of former Awami League MP Md Nizam Uddin Hazari over graft allegations.

Acting Judge Md Alamgir of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the order on Thursday, allowing a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Md. Nizam Uddin Hazari, a former MP of Feni-2, is accused of having unexplained wealth of Tk 187.2 million. He also allegedly used 82 bank accounts for large financial transactions. Investigators suspect money laundering, alleging that Tk 2.80 billion was deposited and Tk 2.68 billion withdrawn through the accounts.

On April 1, 2026, The ACC submitted a petition to a court in Dhaka asking permission to collect and seize the accused person's tax returns and related documents for investigation.

This request was made under Section 309(3) of the Income Tax Act, 2023.

Earlier, on December 18, 2024, the ACC's Dhaka office filed a case against the accused.
