Credible polls key to erasing previous stigma: EC Anwarul

Election Commissioner (EC) Md Anwarul Islam Sarker has emphasised the need for a credible election, free from the questionable practices of previous polls, report agencies.

"There is no alternative to fair, free and good elections if we want to erase the stigma of the past," he said.

The Election Commissioner made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a daylong workshop titled 'Challenges of Polling Officials in the Election Process and Way Forward' at the Bangladesh Rural Development Academy (BARD) in Cumilla.

He assured all not to be afraid about the upcoming elections.

"The 180 million people of our country expect a fair election. We have faced many shameful moments in the past, but this time we must erase that stigma and deliver an acceptable and exemplary election," the election commissioner asserted.
