Ctg court denies Dhaka lawyer's bid to represent Chinmoy

A Chattogram court has rejected a petition filed by a Dhaka-based lawyer seeking to represent Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesman for the Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote, in an ongoing sedition case, reports bdnews24.com.

The lawyer alleged that opposition from local practitioners prevented the hearing of his petition. However, the prosecution and bar association leaders said the petition was dismissed due to the absence of a 'Vakalatnama', (power of attorney), from the accused.

On Wednesday, lawyer Rabindra Ghosh filed three petitions in the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Saiful Islam on behalf of Chinmoy.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury said, "The applicant's lawyer did not provide any power of attorney on behalf of the accused."
