Customers assured of uninterrupted service, as BREB, PBS resolving issues

FE REPORT | September 25, 2024 00:00:00

Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) on Tuesday assured customers that there would be no interruption in services as they resolved issues with Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS), employees of which threatened mass resignation if their demands are not met.

Approximately 40,000 employees and officers from 80 PBS units nationwide have been vocal about their demands last month and their primary concerns included: ending discrimination in service terms and securing permanent employment status.

There is no longer any disagreement between BREB and PBS, as most of the demands of the employees have been met, according to a press release.

PBS, a subsidiary of BREB, acts as a consumer cooperative. Its employees alleged that despite holding the same qualifications and performing the same tasks, they are treated unfairly compared to their BREB counterparts.

A committee has been formed to end discrimination in service, which already held three meetings, and they are taking quick action resolve the major issues, the press release says.

There will be monthly meeting between BREB and PBS for better coordination.

The workers demand of two holidays weekly has already been met along with the demand of five per cent special incentive.

BREB and PSB promised to work together to ensure uninterrupted electricity in the rural areas.
