Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim urged BNP leaders on Monday not to create confusion over the treatment of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, reports BSS.

"We are very careful and alert about Khaleda Zia's treatment . . . But what BNP leaders are telling about her treatment is incorrect," he said.

The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after exchanging Eid greetings with officers and employees at his Secretariat office.

Noting that Khaleda Zia is a former prime minister, Nasim said, "It is really uncomfortable that she is now in jail. We want to see her out of prison."

He said the government did not send Khaleda Zia to jail, the court sentenced her to imprisonment.

The minister said the government is doing everything necessary for her (Khaleda) treatment in jail, but BNP leaders are creating a smokescreen about Khaleda Zia's treatment.

Nasim, also the spokesman of the AL-led 14-party alliance, bitterly criticised the role of BNP leaders about their unacceptable demands for Khaleda Zia's treatment outside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.

Meanwhile, claiming that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is completely well, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said on Sunday the party is hatching a conspiracy to send her abroad in the name of treatment.

"Khaleda Zia is not ill. She is completely fine. Why does not she get admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University or CMH (Combined Military Hospital) if she is ill?" he said.

The minister made the comments while talking to reporters after attending a rally organised by local Awami League at Digholodi union of Sadar upazila.

Tofail said the issue of alternative hospitals would have come had there been any negligence in her treatment.

"She has chosen a specific hospital where she'll ask the physicians of her choice to recommend her treatment abroad. A conspiracy is on to send her abroad."

He further said the Election Commission which was formed as per the recommendations put forward by a search committee is acceptable to all. "It'll be wise for BNP to take part in the next election," he said.
